There has been so much discussion about AI that it’s sometimes difficult to separate what’s genuinely useful from what’s simply new.
For asset management, that picture is starting to become clearer.
Using AI to summarize a work order or find information is helpful, but that’s only the beginning. EAM systems contain years of maintenance history, asset information, inspections, failures and operational knowledge. Helping people actually use that information better is where AI can start making a difference.

Think about a technician trying to find information about an unfamiliar asset, a planner reviewing previous failures, or a manager trying to understand what’s happening across maintenance operations.
These aren’t new problems. What’s changing is how technology can help people get to useful information faster.

AI becomes even more interesting when we look beyond individual tasks and start thinking about asset performance.
Octave Attune APM uses analytics, AI and machine learning to help organizations understand equipment health, identify developing problems and support predictive and condition-based maintenance.
EAM and APM complement each other well. EAM helps manage and execute the maintenance work, while APM adds intelligence around asset condition, performance and risk.
But there is still an important reality: AI doesn’t magically fix bad data.
Asset structures, maintenance history, work orders and business processes still need to make sense. AI can help us do more with that information, but it needs something good to work with.
💡 3. Ask a Better AI Question
Instead of asking “Do we have AI?”, maybe we should ask where it can actually make a difference.
Can it help a technician find an answer faster? Identify something unusual in maintenance history? Reduce repetitive work? Help a planner or manager make a better decision?
If the answer is yes, we have a useful AI application.
If not, maybe we don’t need AI there at all.

💬 Final Thought
We’re still figuring out what AI will ultimately mean for EAM and Asset Performance Management. Some ideas will prove useful and others probably won’t – that’s normal with any new technology.
